Safari and Jungle Themed Baby Shower

by admin on January 20, 2013

Safari and jungle parties are all the rage this year! Many new moms are opting to decorate their nurseries in an animal theme. By using the baby’s nursery as inspiration, planning a baby shower becomes simple and fun! Start by choosing an invitation that matches the nursery. Robyn Miller Design and Take Note Designs offer some of my favorite jungle themed baby shower invitations.

Decorations are also easy… especially if you have children. Borrow some of their small stuffed animals and place them on tables, around the food area and even in your plants to give a real jungle feel! If you don’t have any stuffed animals, try a local discount store – you are sure to find adorable animals that are both new and inexpensive.

Have the animals peek out from behind books and accent your furniture with animal print throws such as a zebra or tiger print.

Set up a buffet table for the baby shower. Placing a runner down the center of the table is an inexpensive way to dress up a table and can also help support the party theme. Our favorite color choices are green and linen; both promote a natural, jungle feel. For the budget-conscious, you can even rent runners or table cloths at a local party store for a reasonable price. If you opt for a darker color table linen, try a natural color cloth for your napkins. A simple plate like white or cream will compliment your theme nicely.

Choose a mixed bouquet of flowers for your table centerpieces that will mimic the native feel of the jungle. Bamboo trays might hold carrot-raisin and cucumber tea sandwiches or turkey and roast beef croissants garnished with edible flowers. Wooden salad bowls can be filled with potato salad or fruit salad. A wood chip and dip platter could be nice for a vegetable and dip display. Stuffed jungle animals can be placed on the trays and around the buffet table.

Sparkling cider and lemonade punch makes the best “jungle juice” and, for dessert, cupcakes in animal print liners or jungle toppers help to get the wildlife started. Try the Jungle Gems Cupcakes from A tiered cupcake stand made out of wire or glass will display your desserts beautifully.

Personalized party favors can be decorated with baby animal faces, the new mom’s name and date of the shower. Try these mint tins favors from Event Blossom. They are sure to be a wonderful reminder of the day and a great way to thank your guests for coming.

For a fun activity, have your guests email their baby picture to you. Create a large jungle scene out of scrapbook papers and embellishments. Tape everyone’s photo to the scene using photo corner stickers. When the guests arrive, have them match the baby pictures to the guests.
